The project was implemented with the support of the “Intellectual Capital” Charitable Foundation.
The documentary video series “Naukovytsi” (“Women Scientists”) tells the stories of Ukrainian women who are transforming science — from the depths of the ocean to the molecules of the brain. These are stories of strength, intellect, and inspiration.
At the center of the narrative is 15-year-old Masha, a girl who dreams of dedicating her life to science. She meets with four outstanding scientists to find answers to her questions, experience the path of a woman in STEM, and discover her own direction for growth.
Each film is a distinct story and a vivid dialogue: about discoveries, breaking down stereotypes, the power of education, and the role of women in big science.
Heroines of the series:
- Vita Yefremova, neurobiologist, University of California, Berkeley (USA) — researching stem cells for the treatment of brain diseases.
- Kateryna Terletska, mathematician — L’Oréal Award laureate, studying internal ocean waves.
- Maryna Shkvyrya, zoologist — studies large predators and serves as the chief zoologist of the Kyiv Zoo.
- Oksana Savenko, marine biologist — spent 15 months in Antarctica as the first woman in wintering at “Akademik Vernadsky” in the past 20 years.
